10 Reasons Why Failure Helped Me Succeed

I am known as a deep thinking type of person.   At times, I think too much or I over think things.  I will even think my way through what should have been a good nights sleep.    It is a curse at times but as each birthday passes (40 to be exact – yikes!) I’ve come to appreciate this little quirk about me.  Writing has been an outlet for the thoughts that wish to take up a permanent (party all night) residence in my head. In my past, I listened to other voices telling me I was worthless.  A […]

Girl, Don’t Go Back to Him

Have you ever asked yourself that question? Maybe you ask it a lot. Maybe you feel angry for going back.  Again. He promised change, things will be different…when deep, DEEP DOWN you know that’s not going to happen.  And yet, here you are again.  And another year of your precious life has passed.   You are in some way, “chemically hooked” on being treated less than what you are worth.   It’s the enemy at work.  We tolerate and accept the love we feel we are most deserving of. Most often you know in your heart that he is wrong […]

The Best Family Easter Traditions

Easter has been an important holiday for our family for many years.  The biblical meaning of Easter is much more profound and significant than just Easter egg decorating and hunting.  The true meaning reminds us to accept His gifts of love, forgiveness, grace and eternal life.  We gather together as a family for prayer, togetherness over a delicious meal and of course all of the decorating and Easter egg hunting allow us to create fun memories with our loved ones for years to come. A giant part of those fun activities has resulted in some amazing traditions.  It creates […]

My Breakdown

I am not particularly proud to admit this but I had a bit of a breakdown this past weekend. It was the last weekend of Spring Break and I had the morning to the evening of every day planned out.   I was doing the breakfast dishes Friday morning and as I opened the cabinet below the kitchen sink I noticed water where it shouldn’t be.  I pulled out the dish washing detergent and some other junk I had in there and lo and behold everything was covered in water.  Not only that, but the wood cabinets and the back […]

Godly Lessons from a Tiny Chihuahua

We rescued a tiny Chihuahua about six years ago and named her Madigan.  She was an older dog and her spirit had been broken beyond comprehension.  Her entire life confined to a crate, locked away with a sole purpose of having pups for her owners to profit from.   The room was full of these stacked tiny crates all full of barks and whimpers.  Except for one.  She sat in the back of her kennel looking but not barking.  Not a peep came out of her.  She had been there for over 30 days and her time was soon […]

A Time For Renewal

A Time For Renewal http://thereoncewasthisgirl.wordpress.com We have had the strangest winter this year here in Texas….really all over the country!  But yesterday…yesterday was a little taste of what’s to come.  It was a gorgeous day!  The weather was perfect.  Not too hot and not too cold.  The only thing messing with my head yesterday was that darn time change!  We woke up late and the kids went to church bed head but we made it so I am certain He overlooked our messy appearance. The small sampling of spring yesterday filled me with so much joy!  I wanted to be outside […]

The Mythical Supermom

I see her around town from time to time.  She’s legendary!  I am quite certain you have seen her too.  She’s the mom you look at with envy.  Your jealousy takes over and you begin to think worst about yourself.  You are just not good enough and you’re doing a horrific job at this mothering stuff. Why can’t you be more like her?  She always looks so put together from head to toe.  She’s got a baby on her hip, one in a stroller, the other behaving perfectly walking along beside her.  She always seem to have beautifully (handmade, I […]

Beware: The Deadly Boyfriend

I found myself in a terrible funk yesterday which has carried through to today.   I am feeling such a heavy burden in my heart that I just needed to sit down and write. I fix my kids breakfast each morning while they are showering and getting ready for school and yesterday morning I decided to turn on the news. There I learned that a local teacher and single mom of two had been found dead and her boyfriend, under arrest, had confessed to the crime.  The boyfriend states in his confession that the two of them had a fight […]
